I have been into birding since the early 80's,when I was avidly twitching everything possible.I left the birding scene in the early 90's,only really going birding when I was abroad on holidays. Then after a telephone call from an old friend to say that there were Waxwings in Cardiff in 2004 the bug bit me again and I have not looked back.I bought my first DSLR in 2008.

Black necked grebes
Due to family commitments I missed these birds at Cosmeston and thought that it was another opportunity gone after they had departed the following day. Luckily though, they were re-found at Rhaslas pond near Merthyr. Steve Hinton and myself went up early Sunday morning only to find the birds very confining and close to the bank we set up on.
